Groups are invited to join the annual celebration of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month with their Banner creations. This year’s Recovery Month theme is, Join the Voices for Recovery-Real People, Real Recovery. Entries in the Battle of the Banner must reflect this year's theme.

Friends of Addiction Recovery-New Jersey (Friends) celebrates Recovery Month by hosting an annual Rally for Recovery scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Liberty State Park -- one of over 200 celebrations taking place nationwide. Community members statewide are being asked to work together to build support for recovery from drugs and alcohol.

MUNICIPALITIES WILL ADOPT A LOCAL RECOVERY MONTH PROCLAMATION

LEAD A RECOVERY DELEGATION

• Identify a Recovery Delegate, in coordination with your local alliance on drug and alcohol abuse, to lead a recovery delegation from your municipality and join in the festivities of the Recovery Walk. Each delegate will participate in the opening ceremony at the Walk.

• Have the Recovery Delegation participate in the “Battle of the Banners” at the Rally for Recovery, where there will be two categories:
Municipal Alliance and Other Prevention Related Groups
Treatment Facility and Other Treatment or Recovery Related Groups
competing throughout New Jersey to create banners that capture this year’s Recovery Month theme. The banners will be judged and the best from each category that captures this year’s theme will be awarded $500 to assist the group in combating alcohol and drug addiction.

FOR MUNICIPALITIES • Adopt a local Recovery Month Proclamation. The local governing body will be asked to issue a Recovery Month proclamation honoring the Recovery Delegate’s participation and the participation of those in the delegation. Your municipality’s participation will help to ensure that the entire state is represented at the state’s Rally for Recovery. Your delegate and the delegation they lead will represent the fact and the hope of recovery in your community.

With so many families in New Jersey – one in three – facing the trials of a loved one with an addiction, it is important to celebrate the many who can and do recover.
