What is a Steering Committee?
A steering committee is a practical way to draw upon the wisdom and experience of our large and varied membership in order to chart our shared future. A steering committee does more than simply advise – it is responsible to take direct action to assist and support program growth and effectiveness. It does this by harnessing the wisdom and resources of the greater community in which the program operates. Because the Steering Committee is not requested to exercise formal legal or fiscal oversight over the program effort, it has more flexibility and can remain focused on program innovation and support rather than with processes and procedures required of a more formal board of directors or program advisory committee.
