KEYNOTE
SPEAKER | NEW YORK TIMES JOURNALIST DAVID CARR
After the Recovery Cruise, 2008 participants will
return to Liberty State Park for an afternoon of entertainment.
This year's speaker will be journalist, David Carr who
has just published his book, "The
Night of the Gun: A Reporter Investigates the Darkest Story
of His Life. His Own" where
he pieces together the story of his seemingly impossible
journey from crackhouse regular to regular columnist for
the New York Times. David Carr is a reporter for The New
York Times, writing the weekly "Media Equation Column" and
contributing pieces to the Culture section. But twenty
years before he came to work at the Times, he was a hopeless
coke addict and an alcoholic. He sobered up, obtained custody
of his twin daughters, survived a bout of cancer and became
a successful journalist. Find

PARTICIPATE IN RECOVERY VOICES
COUNT CAMPAIGN
Befitting the enormous interest
in the upcoming election, advocacy will be in evidence
at this year’s Rally. There will be an Advocacy Tent
set up to register voters as part of this year’s
Recovery Voices Count Campaign and to encourage rally
participants to advocate for policy change. New Jersey
was one of 10 states chosen for Recovery Voices Count
Campaign.
Recovery
Voices Count is part of a national movement
spearheaded by Faces
and Voices of Recovery to make it
possible for even more of our friends, neighbors and
family members to experience long-term recovery from
addiction by building recognition of the recovery community
as a constituency of consequence.
