2007 KEYNOTE SPEAKER:
ACTOR, TOMMY FORD

Tommy Ford landed his first television role in NBC's "A Different World" soon after graduating from USC's prestigious fine arts acting program. Since then he has appeared in several feature films including Eddie Harlem Knights, Mr. Jones, The Butchers Wife, Class Act and Across The. Ford is probably best known for his role as "Tommy" on the FOX Television hit, "Martin" and "Lieutenant Malcolm Barker" on the controversial drama, "New York Undercover." Currently, he can be seen on UPN's hit, "The Parkers, " as Kim Parker's father.

Although acting is his first love, Ford has successfully directed and produced several plays and is currently directing three film projects. He has also been involved in numerous theater productions for which he has received great critical acclaim for his direction and acting efforts. Among those productions are "Jonin," "South of Where We Live," "Distant Fires," "Monsoon Christmas," and "Living Room." He has received several Drama-Logue and Image Awards for his works.

Ford's pending feature film direction line-up includes Rolling Eighties and Eyes of the Storm. Another entity entertainment Ford has tapped into is the music industry where he has successfully earned the title Executive Producer of a recently released gospel CD entitled "Tommy Ford Presents Broderick E. Rice Live."

Ford also writes children's books. "Be Still and Know" and "Stop the Violence," are two of his books which are designed to promote health, well-being, spiritual awareness and non-violence in an effort to guide today's youths.

Ford is a great supporter of charitable organizations, particularly those which benefit children. He has received several awards for his humanitarian efforts. He is president of Inner City Youth Cultivation Counsel (ICYCC), and travels all over the country spreading his message of non-violence. Ford along with writer/actor Ken Sagoes also founded the Tommy Ford-Ken Sagoes Miniature Golf Classic which benefits local Southern California charities.

DAVID WELLSTONE

David Wellstone

Paul David Wellstone, Jr. (Dave) is the son of the late Senator Paul Wellstone (D-MN, 1990-2002).  Along with his brother, Mark, Dave is the Co-Founder of Wellstone Action, a national center for training and leadership development for the progressive movement. 

David Wellstone has traveled frequently to lobby his father's former colleagues to pass a strong version of The Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007.The Wellstone bill ends the practice of insurance discrimination against people suffering from mental illness and addiction.

Dave is the founding partner of Family Place Home Builders, a business dedicated to building affordable housing.  Through this work, David participated in affordable housing development for 15 years in the inner-city of Minneapolis and in greater Minnesota. 

David graduated from Hamline University in 1987, and spent part of his time in college helping inmates at the Cook County jail achieve GED's.  After college, Dave spent time in the Peace Corps in the Solomon Islands teaching agro-forestry.  Dave is the Co-Chair of the Wellstone Action Advisory Board and contributes to advocacy efforts on behalf of mental health and domestic violence.
