VIDEO DOCUMENTS JOURNEY FROM LIBERTY STATE PARK TO BROOKLYN BRIDGE AND BACK
Supported by the Recovery Project and the A&E Network, this years Recovery Cruise and Rally was extraordinary
in a number of ways. Most obvious was the human bridge of recovery that spanned the Brooklyn Bridge and led
into Manhattan. With the crowd of 5,000 and the spectacle of those many individuals acting in unison to
demonstrate the strength of recovery, the Rally embodied the determined advocacy to have addiction accepted
and treated as a disease. This video documents the journey, including the national, NYC metro and New Jersey participants who made their way from Liberty State Park in Jersey City to the Brooklyn Bridge and back on Saturday, September 27, 2008.
Get Out and Vote!
On Tuesday, November 4th, you will have the opportunity to make an impact on who’s elected locally and nationally. In New Jersey, we will not only be voting for the next President, but we will be voting for US Senate and The House of Representatives.
As New Jersey’s 2008 General Election draws near, voters and candidates might want to
contemplate how addicted individuals have been stigmatized and consider pursuing sound
public policies that recognize addiction for what it is: a preventable and treatable disease.
Educated voters like you are one of the most important means of pursuing such policies.
With that in mind NCADD-NJ has produced its 2008 New Jersey General Election Guide to highlight some important issues pertaining to prevention, treatment of and recovery from alcoholism and drug dependence.
As a voter it will be helpful to be aware of these issues so that your voice can be heard in the local, state and
national arenas. Review the 2008 election guide, candidate survey and candidate responses and remember--recovery is working for millions of Americans and the recovery community is a constituency of consequence.
Be sure to get out and vote on Election Day!
Thousands Crossed the Brooklyn Bridge for Recovery Month
Thousands of people led by Recovery Delegates from across the country were united at Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn, and headed across the Brooklyn Bridge to join in a human bridge to recovery. Participants from New Jersey took a water cruise from Liberty State Park in Jersey City to join recovery supporters for the historic walk. The New Jersey group returned to Liberty State Park for a rally in celebration of National Recovery Month. Visit us again soon to see our updated photo gallery and video of this exhilerating day.
Candidate Forum
The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence - New Jersey (NCADD-NJ) and Friends of Addiction Recovery - New Jersey (FOAR-NJ) will lead New Jersey as one of ten states selected by Faces and Voices of Recovery(FAVOR) in its non-partisan Recovery Voices Counts Campaign.

We would like to invite you to take part in this effort by participating in a Candidate Forum to take place on October 8, 2008 at 7:00 PM at the Murray Hill Inn in New Providence. We expect a large audience and coverage by several media outlets.
The focus of this forum will be prevention, treatment, and recovery from addictive illnesses. Candidates and/or their representatives will be scheduled into time slots and may make a presentation and then answer a pre-arranged question.
Congressional candidates Linda Stender(D), Leonard Lance R), Thomas Abrams, Prosperity Not War, Dean Greco, All-Day Breakfast Party and Michael Hsing, Hsing for Congress have been invited to the event. For more information contact Candice at 609-689-0121.
Experience Recovery History
This year’s Recovery Rally and Cruise event expands across the Hudson River as we join thousands of people to form the first-ever Human Bridge to Recovery in a national Recovery Month media event held at the Brooklyn Bridge. The entire day promises to be filled with musical and celebrity entertainment, food, fun, fellowship and much more. Don’t miss the boat for this historic national media Recovery Month event to show the entire country that addiction is a disease and recovery is possible and far-reaching.
Recovery Voices Count
Growing numbers of recovery community organizations and recovery advocates across the country are getting involved in nonpartisan voting activities so that their voices can be heard in the local, state and national arenas. They are conducting voter registration and Get-Out-the-Vote activities, sponsoring candidate forums and getting candidates for political office on record about critical policies that will make recovery a reality for even more Americans.
Friends is participating in this Get-out-the-Vote Campaign on a state and local level through a $2,000 mini-grant that will help fund the Faces and Voices of Recovery-Recovery Voices Count project. The impetus for Recovery Voices Count is the unprecedented political interest stirred by the presidential primaries. NCADD-NJ and FOAR-NJ were selected because they have already developed issues education and advocacy components. Find Out More about the Recovery Voices Count Campaign
